Welcome to Mermaid’s Pearl Editorial! I’m Brittany Vincent, founder and freelance editor of multiple genres spanning both fiction and nonfiction. In addition to my MS in Publishing degree, my diverse professional background spans nearly a decade in trade, digital, and academic publishing.
Growing up in the Ocean State (Rhode Island), I always had a fascination with mythical mermaids. Mermaids are unique, clever, and constantly exploring new depths to find treasures—like pearls. My abilities as an editor are similar. I love diving into the oyster that is writing and discovering the “pearl” of words within.
Real pearls form when an irritant is trapped inside a mollusk. In its defense, the mollusk produces layers of fluid—“Mother of Pearl.” Just like that mollusk, writing is made up of layers—words, punctuation, plots, themes—that need to properly form but may require more development and refining before they are revealed. That’s where I come in. I'll ensure that your content is not only grammatically correct but also accurate and consistent with your particular editorial style and publishing goals.
In addition to efficiency and reliability to meet deadlines, my greatest strength is an eye for intricate detail. I’ll assess the individual building blocks of your work in-depth and how they fit together to create the intended “big picture” concept.
The ancient Japanese believed pearls were created from the tears of mermaids—a treasure cultivated from tribulation. Similarly, I understand that writing and sharing your work can be both a joy and a challenge. It’s my passion to help authors and publishers enhance their editorial projects and produce their best work to engage readers. It becomes my job to guide, refine, and support your project on its journey to publication.
